Young Adult Helps Young Asylum Seeker
Our charity provides unaccompanied young asylum seekers with support by organising group activities where they can socialise with local young adults in a friendly, non-judgmental environment. Through fun events and workshops focused on building interpersonal skills, we help reduce isolation and boredom.
Our goal is to improve their wellbeing, boost confidence, and support community integration, giving them the tools they need to thrive and rebuild their lives in the UK
YAHYA's International Hub is a registered charity in Scotland (SC053326)
The Grampian area has become a home to a growing number of asylum seekers. Many are young adults between the ages of 16 and 26, who mostly are unaccompanied with a family member. They will have often been exposed to significant trauma from within their countries of origin.
The experience of migration is a stressful process that is even scarier for a young adult, as they navigate a foreign culture and language without the support of a family. This isolation can lead to feelings of loneliness, fear and uncertainty.
All children and young adults, regardless of their background, deserve to feel safe, valued and empowered. While having opportunities to learn and develop new skills to build an independent, happy and successful future.
We envisage a future in which local governments, schools, charities, organisations and communities across the UK, particularly in the Northeast of Scotland, collaborate to support and protect these young asylum seekers.
By fostering a welcoming environment, we can help them integrate into our society, and develop their potential to contribute positively to the local community and economy.
YAHYA’s Hub is built on a model where local young adults volunteer to socialise with young asylum seekers in group settings.
We believe that our events and workshops help young asylum seekers improve their mental health, interpersonal skills, and self-confidence, while also giving them opportunities to practise their English.
Our aim is to help them thrive and better navigate life in the UK.
This approach provides a safe, friendly space for learning and personal growth for both volunteers and young asylum seekers, creating a positive social impact for all involved.
Our ultimate goal is to help young asylum seekers become skilled and prepared for life in the UK before they are granted residency.
